This is Sam’s Newsletter, a newsletter about my experience with Binance.
After the massacre of cryptos over last week, I am on my way out of this disaster and decided to close my account with Binance once and for all. I navigated through Binance website and was only led to the option of ‘Disable the account”, which is not exactly what I want since after seeing how Binance conducts the business, I have no confidence in this company and want all my information erased from this website.
So I clicked the button for online help and to their credits, the response from the online support was swift, which only took less than 5 minutes waiting time, considering there must be a lot of like-minded account holders like me demanding help.
Then the swift response from online support turned into a confusing maze, kicking me around among security specialists and account support teams. The first question I was prompted with is ‘Why do you want to delete my account?” and to which my answer is “I have concern over the security of my account and the personal information”, to which I did receive an unsolicited suspicious text message with login verification code.
After the customer support checked out my story and confirmed there is a security breach on my account, I was transferred to their security specialist, which took another 10 minutes to go through my account and my claim and responded with a list of recommendation on how I could change my email address and verification credentials to secure my Binance account again. As much as I appreciate their effort and confirmation of my concern, I insist to have my Binance account deleted again.
Obviously, account deletion is a task beyond the reach of their security specialists, I was transferred back to online support. And here, I was offered exactly the same option as I set out for my journey of deleting Binance account, that is to disable the account.
Not to be pushed around by their over courteous yet dysfunctional speech, I stood my ground on demanding my account to be deleted. Finally, probably checking with their team manager, I was offered the option of ‘taking a selfie with a note citing the date, my email, and account and consent to give up all the assets in the account then send it back to them’ option for their review of my account deletion application. There’s no way I will do a selfie for them like what the CCP do the dissidents doing a television confession and apology to the CCP.
What Binance is doing to save it from losing massive account holders is so ridiculous and pathetic. I asked them, “Do you request a selfie from the account holder whenever they place an order? The support replied, “To apply for account deletion, a selfie and ID are required.”
Feeling frustrated and Realising this is going nowhere, I refused to give my selfie and ID and made my request again then I worked my way back to their website to disable my account.
So there you have it. If you are on a similar journey like me, I hope this could shed some lights on what kind of company Binance is and what to expect if you want your account to be deleted on Binance.
